We all know how the Packers signing Reggie White, opened the door for the team to bring in other big name free agents, like Keith Jackson, Santana Dotson, etc.. The Detroit Tigers had the same thing happen to them after they signed Pudge Rodriquez as a free agent, following the 2003 season. In 2002, the Tigers set the all-time American League record for losses in a season with 119. Just three seasons later, they were playing in the World Series. By signing Pudge, it made the other free agents realize that the Tigers were for real. In 2005, the Tigers signed Carlos Guillen and Magglio Ordonez as free agents. Prior to '06, the Tigs signed Kenny Rogers and Todd Jones. I truly believed all of this happen, because Mike Illitch went out on a limb and signed Pudge Rodriquez as a free agent. Of course, just like the Packers, the youngsters also matured, and everything came together. Pudge, thanks for everything you did for the Motor City. I know when you enter Cooperstown, you will wear a Rangers cap, but I hope you take a moment and consider wearing the Olde English D, for everything you did for the Tigers in the last four and a half seasons. From Tigers fans everywhere. Thank you.
